About this guide
This development guide walks you through everything you need to do to build a high-quality Next.js app integrated with Simple Analytics. Check out the tasks below to get started. To save time, you can also use our boilerplate, which gives you a complete React codebase with all of these tasks done for you. Okay, let's dive in!
Tasks
Setup your Next.js app
Create a Next.js app usingnpx create-next-app
and then run your project locally with thenpm run dev
command.Integrate Simple Analytics and automatically track pageviews
The easiest way to add Simple Analytics to your app is with theanalytics
library. Create a new file calledanalytics.js
where you instantiate theanalytics
library and the@analytics/simple-analytics
plugin. To automatically track every page view in Simple Analytics you'll want to importRouter
fromnext/router
use theRouter.events.on('routeChangeComplete', callback)
function, and fire offanalytics.page()
within the callback. Finally, import your customanalytics.js
file in youApp
component so that it's included on all pages.Track events in Simple Analytics
To track events in your app you just need to export theanalytics
object from the customanalytics.js
file you previously setup, import it wherever needed, and then callanalytics.track('eventName', data)
.
